Learn something new without spending a lot of time or money.

Interested in learning a new hobby but don't have or want to spend the time or money on a lot of supplies or instruction classes?

Even if you save some cash by watching online videos, you will still have to purchase individual supplies. What if you complete the project, or get half way done, and decide it's not really for you?

Avoid this frustration by purchasing a preassembled kit. These little kits include everything you need to complete the project and beginner kits usually cost between $10-$40.

I have purchased and been gifted many of these kits. One or two were always at the top of my birthday and holiday wish lists - how to make pot holders, weave friendship bracelets, mold soap, paint ceramics, draw, sew, knit...you name it.

In today's world, it's even easier to find these kits, and don't let the description fool you - we're all children at heart.💗 They make great gifts and are a must to take a along on any vacation in case of rainy days.

Several years ago (at least five), while walking through Barnes&Noble during the holidays, I pointed out an adorable amigurumi cacti crochet kit to my husband just in case he or the kids still needed some ideas.

There it was, waiting for me under the tree on Christmas morning! And because life got in the way of living, it was put in a cabinet and forgotten. In the middle of packing up to move last year, it turned up again and was added to my pile.

Finally completed - isn't it cute!

Amigurumi is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small creatures. Even though I have been dabbling in the fiber arts for over 40 years, I was nervous having never practiced amigurumi before - and the reason I wanted the kit in the first place. I was interested, but did not want to go "all in" by purchasing the yarn, eyes, stuffing, small hooks, etc.

I really enjoyed making these sweet little cacti. The instruction booklet has at least 8 more patterns, but I will need to purchase additional supplies to complete any of those. A kit is designed to give you "a taste" - to help you determine if you have any interest in going further.

I have two more kits waiting in a drawer - a yarn dying kit and a beginner yarn spinning kit. Just waiting for a rainy day.

You can find many different subject kits, beginner to intermediate levels, by following the links below.

You can also go to any of your favorite stores and browse around; many kits are located in the craft or game department.

If you are interested in learning more than one craft - a monthly subscription may be for you. Here are some recommendations from DIY network.

No excuses...even if it goes on the shelf for five years.😊
