Look it up!

Bill and I are "in the middle" of downsizing from one large home, to two smaller homes. It's a process, like any other, with its share of stress filled moments.

We've spent many hours driving from our home(s) in Pennsylvania to our home in Maine. Since I suffer from Carcolepsy (that's a real thing!), we try to chat the entire trip. That's 10+ hours to Maine! We have taken to playing this fun game we've named, "Look it Up!"

As we are driving along, normal conversation identifies a lot of questions (just like when we were 4 or 5 years old) about various topics. It could be whether a certain musical artist is still alive, or what other hits they've had, or where they were born. Sometimes the questions are about certain towns or cities we are driving through or rivers or lakes we are passing. Any dumb, silly, interesting question that pops into our heads. The internet makes it possible for answers right away...no waiting for an "expert" or finding a dictionary or encyclopedia!

We usually start by innocently asking the question and then yell out "Look it up!" Since our phones are always handy, we simply "Look it up!" and see what information is available.

For instance, we recently drove through several towns in Connecticut with "bury" at the end of their name. Turns out, "bury" is thought to mean town or city in Germany and other European countries.

"American Pie" came on the radio and a discussion ensued about the meaning of the song. "What does he mean by The Day the Music Died?" Bill knows a ton of facts and said it had to do with the death of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and he "thinks The Big Bopper." Well, what do you think happened next? "LOOK IT UP!"

We found out that Buddy Holly was in his early 20's when he died in a plane crash, along with Ritchie Valens, who was just 17 years old! J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson was also on the plane. One site stated that Holly asked for a flight because their tour bus' heater was not working and another stated that Holly also needed to do his laundry! Imagine, the talented souls put to rest that day.😢 We also get a kick out of facts that aren't really facts. Not so sure about the laundry part.

Anyway, we don't always remember what we've "looked up" and have re-looked up certain things from time to time. We ARE over 50 ya know and have so many things crammed in our brains that some stuff has to be pushed aside to make room for more!

"Look it Up" is fun and really makes the time fly, except when phone service is sketchy! It's like "Punch Buggy" without the bruises! Have fun on your next long adventure and let me know if you have any luck and what you have learned (G-rated only please!).
